Missing Utah Wife, Husband Filed for Bankruptcy
Susan Powell has been missing since December 6. The Utah wife and mother of two young sons has not been heard from in two weeks and her husband, Joshua Powell, has now been named a “person of interest” by West Valley City, Utah police.
In April of 2007, Joshua Powell filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and listed more than $200,000 in credit card, furniture, student loan, and other debts, putting a strain on the couple’s relationship. Even before the filing, friends had suggested that the 28-year-old woman leave her husband because, according to family friend, Rachel Marini, he was very, very controlling.
Despite urgings from friends to end the marriage, Mrs. Powell stated that, although there were still serious control issues in their marriage, she was beginning to stand up for herself. The missing woman’s father, Charles Cox, said that the couple was working on their marriage and that things were improving.
