NFL’s CONRAD DOBLER FACES BANKRUPTCY, HEALTH WOES
Known as one of the dirtiest players in the NFL, Conrad Dobler is facing severe financial, family and health problems.
The man who was named “pro football’s dirtiest player” in 1977 by Sports Illustrated, has been plagued by a severely torn up right knee for which he has undergone repeated surgeries and, unfortunately, repeated life-threatening infections.
Dobler, a former defensive lineman for the (former) St. Louis Cardinals football team, is also the primary care-giver for his wife, Joy, who has been a quadriplegic for nine years. She broke her neck in a seemingly innocuous backyard accident back in 2001. Despite his own intense pain, her husband gets himself out of bed each morning to care for his life mate.
If the couple’s serious health problems haven’t been enough of a cross to bear, Dobler’s business, Superior Healthcare Staffing, which supplies temporary medical staff to Kansas City-area hospitals, has been plagued by tax problems, employee embezzlement and theft (a Leavenworth, Kansas, man was recently convicted of theft for forging checks stolen from the company), forcing the once hard-living Dobler to file for bankruptcy.
Still not enough misfortune to stir up feelings of remorse and forgiveness for the former football pro; his mother passed away a month ago.
